The Art of Being There

Some places change
the way you see.

Patagonia is one of them. Here, the mountains command your attention, the weather rewrites the landscape by the hour, and extraordinary photographs begin with the willingness to slow down and truly observe.

More Than a Photography Workshop

The freedom to
follow the light.

The best photographs rarely happen on a rigid schedule. They emerge when preparation meets patience, when the weather shifts unexpectedly, and when you have the freedom to stay just a little longer.

This expedition is built around that philosophy: giving photography the time, attention, and flexibility it deserves.

01

Photography Comes First

Our days are shaped by the landscape, the weather, and the quality of light. Rather than racing through a checklist of attractions, we prioritize the opportunities that make compelling images.

02

Guidance Without the Crowds

An intimate group creates space for individual attention, thoughtful conversations, and the flexibility to explore your own creative approach.

03

Learn to See Differently

Move beyond camera settings and explore composition, visual storytelling, intentional image-making, and the creative decisions behind a memorable photograph.

04

Room for the Unexpected

Patagonia is wonderfully unpredictable. We embrace changing conditions, unexpected encounters, and those extraordinary moments that no itinerary can guarantee.

Less rushing. More observing.
Better photographs.

The Photographic Journey

A landscape that
never stands still.

From towering granite summits to impossibly blue glacial waters, Torres del Paine offers an extraordinary range of photographic subjects. Our expedition explores the park's iconic scenery while remaining attentive to the unexpected compositions and fleeting light that make every visit different.

01 / THE ICONS

The Paine Massif

The unmistakable granite towers and sculpted summits of the Paine Massif rise dramatically above the Patagonian landscape. We'll explore compositions that capture their scale, texture, and ever-changing atmosphere.

02 / THE WATER

Glacial Lakes & Reflections

Turquoise lakes, quiet shorelines, and mountain reflections provide remarkable opportunities for intimate landscapes and expansive panoramic photographs.

03 / THE ELEMENTS

Weather, Light & Atmosphere

Moving clouds, dramatic storms, shifting shadows, and moments of extraordinary light transform familiar scenes into something entirely new. Here, the weather is part of the story.

04 / THE WILD

Patagonia's Living Landscape

Beyond the mountains, the park's grasslands and valleys support guanacos, condors, and other wildlife. When opportunities arise, we'll explore the relationship between these animals and their spectacular surroundings.

Photographic locations and daily plans remain flexible to account for weather, accessibility, wildlife migration, and the best available conditions.

Meet Your Expedition Leader

A Photographer First.
An Explorer Always.

Andrew Slaton

Photographer · Explorer · Workshop Leader

For more than 25 years, photography has shaped the way I experience the world. It's taken me into extraordinary landscapes, introduced me to remarkable people, and taught me that the most memorable photographs often happen when we're willing to slow down and pay attention.

I've always been drawn to wild places. The mountains, the unpredictable weather, the quiet moments before sunrise, and the feeling that something extraordinary might happen just around the next bend.

My approach to leading photography expeditions is simple: create the time, flexibility, and encouragement for people to make photographs they're genuinely proud of. We'll work with the light we're given, explore composition and technique, and leave room for discovery along the way.

Patagonia is a place that rewards curiosity and patience. I'd love to share that experience with you.

See you out there,
Andrew

March 23–30, 2027 · Eight Days

Eight Days.
Endless Possibilities.

Patagonia doesn't follow a schedule, and the most rewarding photography rarely does either. Rather than race between predetermined stops, we'll shape our days around changing conditions, extraordinary light, and the opportunities unfolding in front of us.

Day 01 · March 23

Welcome to Patagonia.

Our expedition begins with an introduction to the landscapes and photographic possibilities ahead. We'll get acquainted, discuss our goals for the journey, and prepare for the days we'll spend immersed in one of the world's most remarkable mountain environments.

Days 02–03 · March 24–25

Finding Our Rhythm.

We begin exploring the extraordinary variety of Torres del Paine: dramatic mountain silhouettes, reflective waters, open valleys, and the interplay of clouds and shifting light. Along the way, we'll work on composition, exposure, and developing a more deliberate approach to landscape photography.

Days 04–06 · March 26–28

Deep Into the Landscape.

With several days dedicated to exploration, we'll have the freedom to return to promising compositions, respond to changing weather, and spend meaningful time with the scenes that inspire us. Wildlife encounters may offer exciting opportunities, but our primary focus remains the landscape and its remarkable transformations throughout the day.

Days 07–08 · March 29–30

Last Light. Lasting Impressions.

We'll make the most of our remaining photographic opportunities before bringing the expedition to a close. More than a collection of beautiful images, the goal is to leave Patagonia with a deeper understanding of your craft, fresh inspiration, and memories that stay with you long after the journey.

A note on our itinerary: This is an overview of the expedition's photographic progression, not a fixed daily route. Specific locations, activities, and timing will depend on weather, access, safety, and available light. All activities will follow local park regulations. Arrival, departure, and meeting logistics will be provided separately.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

Before You Go.

A journey like this deserves thoughtful planning. Here are answers to some of the questions you may have before joining us in Patagonia.

What photography skill level is required?

You don't need to be a professional photographer to enjoy this expedition. The experience is built around curiosity, creative growth, and a genuine interest in photographing wild landscapes.

Familiarity with your camera's basic controls will help you make the most of our time in the field. Instruction will be adapted to individual experience and photographic goals.

How physically demanding is the expedition?

Patagonia involves outdoor activity, uneven terrain, and potentially challenging weather. The expedition is designed around photography rather than completing demanding trekking routes.

Exact walking distances, elevation changes, and accessibility requirements will be confirmed before booking. Please discuss any mobility concerns with Andrew before reserving your place.

What photography equipment should I bring?

A camera with manual exposure controls, a wide-angle lens, a medium telephoto or longer lens, and a sturdy tripod are useful for this type of photography. Bring sufficient batteries, memory cards, and protection against rain and wind.

A detailed recommended equipment list will be provided ahead of the expedition.

What is Patagonia's weather like in March?

Late March brings the beginning of autumn to southern Patagonia. Conditions can change rapidly, with strong winds, rain, cool temperatures, and occasional periods of extraordinary light.

Flexibility is central to our approach. We will adjust photographic activities around the weather and prioritize safety.

Are accommodations included?

Yes. Seven nights of shared accommodations are included in the $9,000 expedition price. Single-occupancy accommodation may be available for an additional fee, subject to availability.

What meals and transportation are included?

Airport transfers and ground transportation during the expedition are included. Meals and beverages are not included, so guests should budget separately for dining.

Designated airport, meeting arrangements, and other logistical details will be provided with the final travel information.

How do deposits and payments work?

The total expedition price is $9,000 per guest. A $3,500 deposit reserves your place and is applied toward the total cost, leaving a balance of $5,500.

The remaining balance due date, cancellation provisions, and refund conditions will be specified in the booking agreement.

How many photographers will be joining?

The expedition is limited to a maximum of five paying guests. Keeping the group small allows more individual attention, a more personal atmosphere, and flexibility in the field.
